all the ship are gone in the harbour now

my soul can rest a weary day
now that my fishin's done
i came to lay in my island home
from far in the eastern sun

many homes lay empty now
the youngsters moved away
my family's just memories
phone calls and unkept graves
i knew this day would always come
when i will pass away
(and) meet the cold ground of my island home
never see another day

when i die please take me out on the newfoundland sea
where the cod and oil do flow
that's where i wants to be
with a heart that's been broken in the wake of the sea
in the land of newfoundland where the sea meets the land
there's a feeling in the air that you can't understand

i remember some of my days
many more i do not
it's this weary mind of a working man
hard from sorrows wrought
that sits and stares from my rocking chair
sussing when i see no more
and he takes me from my island home
to never stand upon its shore
